Problems With Your Braces

Anytime we put on braces or any other type of treatment appliance, we are committed to our patients to ensure that discomfort and problems with those braces will be as minimal as possible. However, some discomfort and infrequent detachment of the appliances may occur, so this section will explain how to handle those inconveniences.

Foremost, by calling our office telephone number, at any time, during business hours or not, you will be connected to someone who can advise you about your concern. Never hesitate to call immediately anytime a condition exists with pain or detached appliances.

  • LOOSE BRACKETS or BANDS - As soon as you are aware of a loose bracket or band, please call our office to allow someone there to advise you of the next step. Most loose brackets DO NOT require an immediate trip to our office, but let us make that decision in your best interest.
  • LOOSE EXPANDER - If the appliance becomes detached on one side, or, if one of the wires comes to be in an uncomfortable position, please call us. Someone is available to take your call 24/7 so we can make arrangements to see you at our office.
  • LOOSE HERBST - If the appliance becomes detached on one side, or, if one of the rods/tubes comes to be in an uncomfortable position, please call us. Someone is available to take your call 24/7 so we can advise you. Locate the small L-shaped, HEX instrument we gave you and have it ready to use.
  • POKING WIRES - At the first awareness of any discomfort due to the wires in the braces, place an amount of wax (from the container we gave to you in your starter package) on the irritating wire. If the irritation or discomfort persists for more than a couple of days, please call us.
  • BROKEN OR LOST RETAINER OR REMOVABLE APPLIANCE - During our regular business hours, please call us so that we can advise you.
  • FACIAL TRAUMA - Please follow appropriate first aid procedures. After the "emergency" conditions have been resolved, please call us so that we can advise you.
